Chris Kluwe and the Minnesota Vikings have reached terms of a settlement which will be announced at a joint press conference early next week, according to a statement from Kluwe's lawyer Clayton Halunen.

Kluwe was released prior to the 2013 season. He claims it was in response to his activism in support of various LGBT-rights platforms.

The Vikings responded saying Kluwe's release was due to Kluwe's performance, age and relative salary.

Kluwe first brought his concerns to light in a pointed article published on Deadspin.com.

One of the key points in Kluwe's contention was a homophobic statement from Vikings special teams coach Mike Priefer.

The Vikings commissioned an independent investigation of the accusation and other facts surrounding Kluwe's release.

The investigation, which was partially released, determined Priefer did make the statement. He will be suspended for three games of the upcoming season as a result.  If he completes sensitivity training, the suspension can be trimmed to two games.

Kluwe was demanding Priefer be suspended for between four and eight games, and the team make a $1 million donation to a local LGBT organization.

Kluwe and Halunen threatened a lawsuit after initial negotiations broke down, and Priefer's suspension was announced at three games.
