Plymouth authorities say a playground fire that caused an estimated $200,000 in damage appears to have been intentionally set.
The fire was reported Friday about 2 a.m. at Plymouth Creek Park. The damage included new playground equipment worth between $80,000 and $130,000.
Officers say brand new playground equipment was destroyed and is not salvageable. The new equipment was supposed to be installed Friday morning. The old equipment had been removed by volunteers on Monday and will be shipped overseas to be rebuilt into two playgrounds.
No injuries were reported in the fire.
The state fire marshal and the Plymouth Police Department are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the Plymouth Police Crime Tip line at 763-509-5177 or the Crime Stoppers line at 1-800-222-8477.
