A dozen people were evacuated after a 3-alarm fire ripped through a Brooklyn Center home Saturday morning.

The fire started at 3815 56th Ave. N. and spread to the garage of a neighboring house, which later collapsed.

Officials say an unattended propane fryer is what caused the fire.

Neighbor Antonio Burns says it was the sound of erupting propane tanks that alerted him to the danger.

"It sounded like explosions, I didn't know, like fireworks. It sounded like fireworks," Burns said.

Large plumes of smoke were visible for miles.

The amount of smoke the fire caused made it difficult to see; however, everyone made it out safely and there were no injuries. Nearby neighbors were evacuated from their homes by police officers.

Nearly a dozen different fire departments responded to the scene.
