Two Minneapolis brothers recently lost everything in a burglary. They had only been living in their North Minneapolis home about two weeks when they were cleaned out.

However, neighbors are stepping in to help the two Iraq war veterans get back on their feet.

"They left my service uniforms, so that's good," Luke Peterson said. A mess was left in the basement, the kitchen and the living room.

"They took all the electronics," he said.

The Peterson brothers are in the Minnesota National Guard. Both were away at Camp Ripley for training, and when they came back they realized they had been burglarized. The back door was wide open.

"It was just wide open, glass all over the ground and my first reaction was, 'I think we got broken into,'" Luke Peterson said.

They lost about $20,000 worth of valuables. It's stuff that can be replaced, but to restore their sense of home will be harder.

"It was that feeling of someone else was in your house," Matt Peterson said.

Word spread that these two veterans had gotten burglarized, and neighbors like Cathy Scoville stepped up to help.

"It's been amazing the outpour of, 'We want to help, we want to donate, we want to give,'" Scoville said.

"People are donating gift cards, money, checks, and anything and everything that they want to do," she said.

The brothers say they are shocked by all the concern.

"It's very humbling; it's really nice," Matt Peterson said.

They filed a police report, but so far no suspects have been arrested.
