Woman Suffers 'Severe Lacerations' after Hit by Boat on Whitefish Lake

A 21-year-old woman has severe injuries to her leg after falling out of a boat and getting run over Saturday evening.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on Whitefish Lake. The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office says Maria Nerness of Greenwood, Minnesota, fell off the front of a boat being driven by 24-year-old Thomas Ryan of Denver, Colorado.

Officials say she had "severe lacerations" to her leg after the boat ran over her. She was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center.

Ryan was arrested on suspicion of boating under the influence. The incident is still under investigation.
