The two people charged in the stabbing death of a 20-year-old University of Minnesota student have been indicted by a Dakota County Grand Jury.
Shavelle Chavez-Nelson, 32, and Ashley Conrade, 24, were both charged with second degree murder in June for allegedly killing Anarae Schunk in September 2013. Her body was later found in rural Rice County.
The pair has been indicted on first and second degree murder charges. Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom says the indictments supersede the previous charges.
“Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Anarae Schunk for their great loss,” Backstrom said.
Chavez-Nelson is in Stillwater Prison serving time for an unrelated crime. Conrade has been in custody in Dakota County since her June 25, 2014, arrest.
Both are expected to make court appearances this week.
