Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura has won his defamation case against "American Sniper" author Chris Kyle.

The verdict was announced around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday. The federal jury awarded Ventura $500,000 for defamation and $1.3 million for unjust enrichment, which brings the total to $1.8 million.

University of Minnesota Media Law and Ethics Professor Jane Kirtley says the verdict is a victory for Ventura. The fact that attorneys agreed to let the jury reach a verdict that was not unanimous is a tactical decision, but not the decision she would have made in the situation.
