Police are looking for a man suspected of shooting a Northfield resident during an armed robbery early Tuesday morning, saying he may still pose a threat to the public.

The incident happened around 12:15 a.m. in the area of Highway 3 and 3rd Street West. Officers found a male victim lying in the street.

Police say he had been approached by a man who demanded personal items. At some point, the man shot the victim in the abdomen.

The victim was taken to the Northfield Hospital ER and then airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center. Police say he is in serious condition.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic man between 20- and 30-years old about 5 feet 10 inches with a medium to heavy build. He could have been wearing a white or button up shirt, possibly with jeans or shorts.

His possible vehicle is described as a light colored minivan with Minnesota plates. It was seen heading northwest of the incident location.

Police say it is assumed the suspect is a threat to the public. If seen, do not approach him and call 911.

The case is continuing to be investigated. Anyone with information can contact Sgt. P.T. Haider.
