The search continues for a missing Minnesota man who disappeared five years ago Thursday.
On July 24, 2009, Peter Achermann of Leader went to run errands in nearby Staples. He never returned home to his wife and 11 adult children.
The (Brainerd) Daily Dispatch reports Achermann's station wagon was discovered by authorities at the end of a rural road the following day. The vehicle was buried in a mud hole.
The Cass County sheriff says extensive searches were conducted within a six mile radius of the area. Hundreds of community members, two fire departments, dive teams and members of mounted posses, the Minnesota State Patrol and Minnesota National Guard participated.
The sheriff's office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are committed to solving the case. A $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest still stands.
