I just finished watching a great documentary by Ketchup Entertainment called “Next Goal Wins.” It is about the American Samoa football (soccer) team who is considered one of the worst in history.

“Next Goal Wins” takes place on the tiny island of American Samoa, the film begins ten years after the America Samoa football team gets defeated by Australia 31-0. You learn that the team is ranked at the bottom of FIFA’s World rankings and they have only scored two goals in 17 years.

The qualification matches for the World Cup are coming up and the American Samoa team wants to qualify. The team hires an American coach named Thomas Rongen to try and help turn the team around by training them to be better players.

“Next Goal Wins” is directed by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison. I thought they did an excellent job capturing all of the emotions of the team and showing how badly they wanted to win.

I also thought the film was very inspirational and a great underdog story. I really liked how the film focused on every player on the team and showed their personal lives.

Overall, I enjoyed Ketchup Entertainment’s “Next Goal Wins” a lot. I thought the story was great, and to be honest I had never heard about the American Samoa team until now. I know fans of FIFA and people who enjoy an inspiring and emotional film will enjoy this as much as I did.
