A 40-year-old man was arrested Monday after allegedly shooting a 17-year-old girl several times while she was standing on her deck in northern Minnesota.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. at a home in Beltrami County. The 17-year-old girl called police and said she had been shot multiple times, according to the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived to find her inside her home; they immediately began first aid until EMS crews arrived.

The teen was initially taken to Bemidji Sanford Hospital Emergency Department and then later transported to Duluth for further care.

Authorities canvassed the neighborhood to look for the shooting suspect. Chad Eric Pickering was found at his residence and taken into custody in connection to the shooting.

Authorities say they have determined Pickering acted alone in the assault.

He is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder.

Chad Pickering was charged July 23 with shooting a 17-year-old girl after she told him not to ride his lawn mower through her yard.
