A community is mourning the loss of a doctor from Monticello who died over the weekend when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a golf cart in Wright County.

The incident happened on County Highway 2 in French Lake Township around 3:40 p.m. on Saturday.

Dr. Eric Lefebvre joined the Monticello Clinic in 1997 as an OB/GYN. The 51-year-old had been riding on a motorcycle on Hwy. 2 when he collided with a golf cart, according to the Wright County Sheriff's Office.

Lefebvre was pronounced dead at the scene. The avid motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, according to authorities.

Lefebvre had been providing health care to women in the area for more than 17 years, Douglas Hanson, CEO of Buffalo, Monticello and Albertville-St. Michael clinics, said. The clinic is working with his patients to coordinate their care.

"He was a tremendous physician, showing great care, compassion and dedication to so many patients in our communities," Hanson said.

"Our hearts and prayers are with the Lefebvre family."

Monticello Clinic will hold a candlelight vigil Monday at 8 p.m.

The driver of the golf cart, 36-year-old Korie Schiel of Chaska, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.

The crash is under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff's Office.

Golf carts are considered an unauthorized vehicle on the road; however, communities can enact an ordinance allowing them on the streets, according to Capt. Todd Hoffman.
