The remains of two people were found by hikers near Mount Evans in Colorado on Thursday morning, where a father and son from Minnesota have been missing since April, according to the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office.
Crews have been searching for 51-year-old Damian McManus and his 18-year-old son, Evan McManus, since April.
Despite other media reports, a family spokesperson tells KSTP the bodies have not been positively identified at this time. The bodies are being turned over to the coroner’s office for identification.
We spoke with people who know the McManus family, through athletics and church. No one was comfortable speaking with us on camera.
They say this has been very difficult for the mother and daughter, and they don't want to jump to any conclusions.
The father and son were last heard from April 2 when they went to Mount Evans for a spring-break hike.
Their car was found at a campground near the base of the mountain, but it's not known which trail they took. Heavy snow fell after they disappeared, erasing any footprints.
