No charges will be filed in the death of a 2-year-old Wisconsin boy found dead in the trunk of a car near his home last year.

Polk County District Attorney Daniel Steffen said Wednesday that Isaiah Theis' death was a "tragic accident and that no intent or recklessness was present to cause that death."

The announcement comes one year after Isaiah’s parents reported him missing. A sheriff’s deputy found his body more than 24 hours later in the trunk of a car that was at a repair shop near the boy’s home in Centuria.

Steffen also said this case is closed as far as he is concerned.

Thousands of volunteers spent the day searching after the boy was reported missing. Volunteers and authorities looked inside the car but didn't check the trunk because it was locked and the keys weren't available at the time. Authorities checked the trunk when the customer came to get his car the next day and found Isaiah dead inside.

Authorities say Isaiah died of hypothermia due to heat.
