Two people were killed and one person was injured after a three-vehicle crash in Somerset, Wisconsin, Tuesday.
According to the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened on Highway 35 near Lakeside Lane around 2:30 p.m.
Authorities say a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Amanda Day, of Osceola, Wisconsin, hit a vehicle driven by 60-year-old Terry Baillargeon,of Somerset, Wisconsin. Day hit the quarter panel of Baillargeon’s vehicle as she tried to pass him in the northbound lane, according to the sheriff’s office. Baillargeon’s vehicle was then sent spinning into the southbound shoulder/ditch area of the road.
A vehicle in the southbound lane driven by 83-year-old Goldie Culver of Apple Valley, Minnesota, was then hit by Day’s vehicle. Culver's car ended up in the ditch. Day’s car came to a rest in the middle of the highway.
Day was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. Culver was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul by LifeLink, where she later died from her injuries.
Baillargeon was taken to Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater with injuries. His condition is unknown.
The sheriff’s office said Day was the only person involved in the crash not wearing a seatbelt.
A portion of the highway was closed for three hours and traffic was rerouted as crews worked the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
