Major League Baseball and the Minnesota Twins are apologizing for post-midnight fireworks shot off after the All-Star Gala in downtown Minneapolis.
In a statement, MLB says the show was "louder and longer than what we were expecting."
The invitation-only event was scheduled to start after the Home Run Derby at Target Field. MLB says organizers had agreed to conduct a "light" fireworks display at midnight. But, the fireworks didn't go off until nearly 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Some residents who complained on Twitter used the hashtag "bragmnpls" set up by Mayor Betsy Hodges to encourage citizens to brag about the city.
Who exactly was responsible for the invitation-only HUGE fireworks display last night at 12:30 am? I want 2 never vote 4 them. #bragMPLS— KarmaLovesGumbo (@KarmaLovesGumbo) July 15, 2014
"I bet your city isn't setting off fireworks in the middle of the night," one person tweeted. "Not sleeping. Not bragging" another post said.
