Minnesota prosecutors say a Wisconsin woman was drunk when her minivan with her three young children inside flipped onto its side, injuring her 8-year-old son.

A St. Paul Pioneer Press report says 34-year-old Christal Jean Luellen was charged Friday with five criminal counts.

Prosecutors say the New Richmond, Wisconsin, woman had five drinks at a St. Paul bar Thursday night.

After drinking at the bar, Luellen went to her aunt’s house and got into a verbal argument with her aunt, according to the criminal complaint. Luellen took her children and left the house in the minivan; she was driving early Friday morning with her 4-year-old daughter and two sons, ages 8 and 12.

A State Patrol trooper found the minivan on its side on Concordia Avenue around 2:30 a.m. The 8-year-old was bleeding heavily from a facial injury, and the other two kids weren't hurt.

The one child who sustained an injury was transported to a hospital with “substantial bodily harm,” according to doctors.

According to St. Paul police officers who interviewed witnesses at the scene, Luellen went through a red light and rolled her vehicle.

Prosecutors say a breath test administered at the scene registered twice the legal limit.

Luellen has been charged in Ramsey County with five criminal counts: three counts of endangerment of a child, criminal vehicular operation and driving while impaired.

Online court records didn't list a defense attorney for Luellen on Saturday.
