The mother who was behind the wheel when her car crashed into a retaining pond in St. Louis Park last November – killing two children – appeared in court Wednesday.

At the hearing for 23-year-old Marion Guerrido, the judge decided to continue the pre-trial next month. Guerrido is facing three misdemeanor charges, including driving without insurance, violating the rules of her driver’s license permit, and not properly buckling in some children.

Guerrido’s car veered off a ramp at Highways 7 and 100 and landed in a holding pond the morning of Thursday, Nov. 21. Five children were passengers in the car, and only three survived.

A St. Paul Pioneer Press report says Guerrido is also accused of neglecting one of the surviving girls; she’s accused of failing to provide food and medical care for her daughter, who turns 2 this month.

Authorities say the girl suffered brain and organ damage in the November accident.

In April, the parents told a child-protection investigator they'd removed the girl's feeding tube over infection concerns. But the parents didn't pursue medical care, and they missed appointments.

The newspaper was unable to reach the parents. Their attorney, Rick Petry, declined to discuss the case.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
