Home health care workers across the state are gathering Tuesday to announce their intent to file for a union and a union election.
The Minnesota Bureau of Mediation Services, Personal Care Attendants, supporters and those who receive home care services will meet at the bureau in St. Paul on Tuesday afternoon to make the announcement.
There are more than 26,000 PCAs in the state who care for senior citizens and the disabled. Some of them will be speaking Tuesday about challenges and working conditions and why they want to form a union.
Organizers expect it to be the largest union election in Minnesota history.
