Residents of Prior Lake are celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks and sandbags. The recent flooding has forced officials to change plans for the annual Independence Day festivities.
The boat parade that the city is known for has been canceled. The no-wake restriction remains in effect on the lake and officials are worried any un-needed wakes will push already stretched sandbag lines even further.
Fireworks have been moved. Normally launched from Watzl's Beach, they will now be shot off from the top of Lakefront Park. Prior Lake Association Treasurer Donna Mankowski says there is a silver lining with this setup. The fireworks will be launched from such a high point, they will be visible from most of the city.
Flood waters there have only receded a few inches so some residents are still using boats to get to and from their home. Residents there have been dealing with the flood waters for more than 10 days.
