A father shot and killed a bear Tuesday after seeing it come out of the woods toward his Albertville home where his daughter was playing in the backyard, according to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Joe Hagerty said a homeowner on the 10000 block of 64th Street Northeast in Albertville reported seeing the bear at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. The homeowner said the bear had walked up to his sliding glass door.
The responding deputy arrived in the area and saw the bear near a home on the 10000 block of Karston Avenue Northeast and heard a single gunshot. The deputy then saw the bear run toward the woods and collapse; the bear was found dead with a single gunshot wound.
A homeowner in the area where the deputy saw the bear said his daughter was playing in the backyard and he feared for his family's safety when he saw the bear, so he got a hunting rifle and shot it.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Wright County Sheriff’s office have closed the case and determined no additional action was needed.
