St. Paul police are looking for the driver of a van who drove into a hole on Hazel Street overnight and left his children injured inside.
Crews were repairing a section of the street and had marked a hole that was 10 feet wide and 8 inches deep. Around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, a caller reported a van drove into the missing section of pavement.
Witnesses at the scene heard screaming from the vehicle. Officers found two children; ages 8 and 14 injured inside. They were taken to Regions Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Eight-year-old Almond, who loves wrestling, had a fractured femur bone and severed artery, according to family. They also say the sister, 14-year-old Amarya, who is an honor student, is not feeling her legs very much.
The driver of the van has been identified as 45-year-old Earl Ward, of St. Paul. Ward has been has been known to frequent the cities of Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center, according to police.
Police say Ward is wanted for other crimes.
