The east metro is full of traffic hotspots this weekend, so it will be a good idea to plan alternate routes and extra time.
Highway 36 is closing in both directions from Rice Street to Highway 61 starting at 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. There are nine ramps that will close as well:
• Snelling Avenue northbound to Highway 36 eastbound
• Hamline Avenue to Highway 36 eastbound
• Lexington Avenue to Highway 36 eastbound
• Dale Street to Highway 36 eastbound
• Rice Street to Highway 36 eastbound
• Highway 36 westbound to Rice Street
• Edgerton Street to Highway 36 westbound
• Highway 61 north/south to Highway 36 westbound
The posted detour for Highway 36 is Interstate 35W, Interstate 694, and Highway 61.
I-494 Eastbound from Hardman Avenue in South St. Paul to Maxwell Avenue in Newport will have a lane restriction this weekend. Crews will close the left lane at 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.
There are a couple of ongoing projects in the east metro worth mentioning. Interstate 35E is down to two lanes in both directions from Little Canada Road to Maryland Avenue until fall.
Traveling near downtown White Bear Lake could be tricky. On Highway 61, from Lake Avenue to 7th Street, the roadway is down to one lane in both directions. Expect lane restrictions near White Bear Avenue as well.
In better news, the Xerxes Ave bridge and ramps at Highway 62 in Richfield are set to reopen Saturday morning. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Highway 169 southbound at Bren Road will reopen on Monday, June 30.
There is a short list of projects in greater Minnesota to be aware of this weekend. Interstate 35 in Owatonna is reduced to one lane in both directions until fall. Expect the biggest delays on Friday and Sunday afternoons and evenings.
In Central Minnesota, Highway 10 in Rice has lane shifts and temporary traffic signals in place. Up ahead from Cushing to Motley, you'll find single lane roadwork in each direction. Lanes are expected to reopen in time for the Fourth of July holiday.
