Numerous house fires were reported overnight, and initial reports indicate that at least some of them could have been caused by lightning strikes.

Three houses on the 17000 block of Foliage Avenue in Lakeville caught fire early Thursday morning, and crews are still on the scene.

Firefighters believe lightning hit a tree and then hit the gas lines, which caused the gas meters on three homes to explode.

KSTP Reporter Katherine Johnson said two of the houses are across the street from each other and the third house is about six houses up the street.

CenterPoint Energy crews are now monitoring the gas levels to decide if the area needs to be evacuated. As of now, everyone is safe and no injuries have been reported.

A fire also broke out at a townhouse complex on the 1500 block of Liberty Circle in Shakopee shortly after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. We’re told the two residents who were home at the time escaped unharmed.

The fire reportedly started in the garage and then spread to the main unit, and the adjacent units had some smoke and fire damage as well. Crews say the main unit is a total loss.

In St. Paul, lightning hit a house on the 1800 block of Marshall Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the attic. St. Paul firefighters say the house sustained extensive damage but that everyone got out safely. It's now under control and crews have cleared the scene.
