An injured woman was rescued from the Mississippi River in Minneapolis by two rowing coaches and two rowers from the University of Minnesota.

Head coach Wendy Davis says they spotted the woman about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday while in a motorized boat on the river. She says the woman looked like she was wading in waist-deep water, but realized she was tangled in some trees and had clearly broken her leg. Davis and the two rowers pulled the woman partly into their boat, but the current was strong.

Davis said assistant coach Peter Morgan motored over in his boat and helped get the woman all the way into her boat.

Davis says she heard the woman tell first responders that she had fallen into the river the night before about 3 miles upstream.
