The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Tuesday that Sam Mitchell will join Flip Saunders staff as an assistant coach, according to a release from the team.

The terms of the deal were not released due to the Timberwolves' team policy.

Mitchell returns to the Timberwolves' bench after spending ten seasons on the roster after playing overseas.

"We are excited to add Sam Mitchell to our coaching staff," head coach Flip Saunders said. "As a player, Sam was always one of our more vocal leaders in the locker room and was a great influence on our team."

Mitchell was the head coach in Toronto from 2004 to 2008 where he led the Raptors to two playoff appearances during his time as the head coach.

The remainder of Flip Saunders coaching staff will be announced at a later date.
