High winds caused several sailboats to capsize during a regatta on Lake Minnetonka Saturday morning, sending racers into the water.

Officials said several sailboats and racers had to be pulled to safety, but everyone was safe.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Water Patrol team rescued some of the racers. A safety boat that was part of the race assisted with others.

Racer Hans Vrovge of Deephaven said he goes races on Lake Minnetonka every weekend. The weather unexpected weather created a dangerous situation for the sailors.

"I was out of control," Vrovge said. "I did everything I should have done, but sometimes the wind is too strong."
