House Majority Leader Eric Cantor was defeated in a Virginia Republican Primary by David Brat, a college professor who is now making headlines for pulling off the biggest Tea Party win of the 2014 campaign season.

Brat also has ties to Minnesota; he lived in Brooklyn Park and went to Park Center High School. Graduating in 1982, Brat played tennis and was a member of the marching band and debate team.

Brat's best friend back in high school is surprised by his victory.

“He’s such a good person," Mitch Kruger said. "He is intelligent and articulate, and he cares, and just to see someone like that get in is great."

Brat left Minnesota after high school to attend college in Michigan.
