A 16-year-old boy suspected of shooting his older brother Monday in Columbia Heights has turned himself in, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. The boy's identity has not been released because he is a minor.

Authorities say 19-year-old Deondre Jamal Sanstad was shot around 3:30 p.m. on the 1700 block of 37th Avenue Northeast.

Jennifer Sanstad, Deondre's mother, called police after the shooting, according to Commander Paul Sommer. The teen ran from the scene before police arrived.

The teen turned himself in Tuesday and remains in custody at the Anoka County Attorney's Office, Sommer said.

Witnesses say the shooting may have been the result of the teen playing with a gun and pointing it at his brother.

The suspect and Deondre are half-brothers and share the same father. They do not live together, Sommer said.
