Otsego is set to have the first full-service Target liquor store in Minnesota.
The city council approved an application for a liquor store within the SuperTarget at 15800 87th Street NE. Otsego City Planner Dan Licht said they were first made aware of the new plans in early April, when a sign company called asking if Otsego would allow more text on the building.
Their suspicions were confirmed when Target sent in the liquor license application in May.
The company already sells low-alcohol beer, with a concentration of 3.2 percent compared to 5 percent of most beers. It has sold liquor in select stores since 1996.
Minnesotans have requested the company sell spirits, the company said in a statement. Otsego's pilot project will expand the company's mission to be a one-stop-shop for residents.
Otsego Mayor Jessica Stockamp said the 1,600-foot store is expected to be open in October.
The liquor license goes into effect July 1.
