A 16-year-old suspected of shooting his older brother Monday in Columbia Heights is still at large.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, 19-year-old Deondre Jamal Sanstad was shot around 3:30 p.m. on the 1700 block of 37th Avenue Northeast.

Jennifer Sanstad, Deondre's mother, called police, according to Commander Paul Sommer.

The teen ran from the scene before police arrived. He is described as having chin-length dreadlocks and was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and jeans. His identity has not been released because he is a minor, Sommer said.

Police initially thought the 16-year-old may have had the handgun when he fled. Responding officers set up a perimeter, but did not locate the teen Monday.

The suspect and Deondre are half-brothers and share the same father. They do not live together, Sommer said.

Witnesses say the shooting may have been the result of the teen playing with a gun and pointing it at his brother.
