A girl was airlifted to a local hospital Thursday after she was hit by a school bus in Wright County, according to authorities.

The incident happened around 3:15 p.m. at Padgett Avenue and 82nd Circle in Otsego, according to the Wright County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said the child was hit by a school bus associated with Otsego Elementary School.

Neighbors said the kindergartner got off the bus and was hit when she went to retrieve something from underneath the bus.

The girl's parents were waiting nearby in a car when they saw the incident. Neighbors said the parents rushed to their daughter and forgot to put their car into park. The car then rolled and hit the bus.

Authorities said the child was treated at the scene then airlifted to a local hospital. The girl was conscious when she was airlifted.

The Minnesota State Patrol assisted authorities.
