A new elevator sits right at the corner of East Fifth and Cedar streets in St. Paul. It was built at the new light rail Green Line's Central Station. The elevator will be open the same hours as the skyway system.

Rick Cardenas led the charge to get the new elevator installed. He uses a wheelchair and says when downtown buildings close, he has little to no access to the St. Paul skyway system. This new elevator will change that.

"During inclement weather, during bad time, this is a really accessible step forward for anyone who has mobility issues at all," he said.

The Green Line opens to the public on Saturday, June 14.
