A 48-year-old woman from Dayton was struck by lightning in Anoka County in front of several people watching a youth baseball game Saturday.

Reid Conlee, a freshman at Blaine High School, said he saw the woman get hit by lightning at Lion's Park around 2:45 p.m. The athletic fields are located on 157th Avenue.

He said the 2014 Blaine Classic Tournament had just been called off due to weather when he saw the woman get struck by lightning after a loud boom of thunder.

Kids from ages 11 to 14 were playing in the tournament.

Conlee said people rushed to perform CPR in the pouring rain.

One of the bystanders was Chris Hollen, a father and baseball coach who was at Lion's Park for the tournament. He witnessed the lightning hit the woman and ran, along with others, to give CPR.

"She was standing right under a tree about 15 feet away from me," Hollen said. "My ears were ringing it was, I've never heard anything that loud, it was like a big firecracker, an explosion and sparks actually hit my leg.

"I had to catch myself, I almost fell over, it hit so hard and my ears are still ringing and I just, I just ran over to her, and I just immediately felt and there was no, no heartbeat that I could feel, but my heart was just racing," Hollen said.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office also said the woman didn't have a pulse and was not breathing when bystanders began CPR treatment. Responders were able to resuscitate her and she was taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids with unknown injuries.

The incident happened as a thunderstorm moved quickly through Anoka and Isanti Counties, bringing heavy rainfall and lightning Saturday.
