Primary Ahead, GOP's Honour Names Running Mate

Created: 05/31/2014 10:10 AM KSTP.com

Minnesota Republican Scott Honour has filled out his ticket for governor with a state senator as the first-time candidate looks ahead to an August primary.

Honour, a former investment company executive, named state Sen. Karin Housley of St. Mary's Point for the lieutenant governor slot. Honour says she brings legislative experience to his campaign but not so much she is considered engrained in government.

Housley won't have to give up her seat to run because state senators aren't on this fall's ballot.

Honour didn't seek the GOP's governor endorsement being decided Saturday at the party's state convention. He is driving toward the Aug. 12 primary when the GOP nomination to oppose Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton will be settled. Honour invested significant personal resources into his campaign, making him a contender.
