The body of a 21-year-old Coon Rapids man who was swept away in the St. Croix River over Memorial Day weekend has been recovered, the Chisago County Sheriff's Office confirms.
Tou Hu Vang's body was found by fishermen just south of the Osceola Landing at 9:51 a.m. Friday, the sheriff's office says.
Vang jumped into the river in Taylors Falls on Sunday after his nephew fell into the water. The two were fishing at the time.
A good Samaritan who witnessed the 11-year-old go in jumped off a 30-foot cliff into the river and was able to rescue the boy, but Vang never resurfaced.
Crews began searching for Vang on Sunday evening, but the swift current slowed recovery efforts this week, limiting rescuers to scanning the banks and the river's surface.
The Chisago County Sheriff's Office, National Park Service and Taylors Falls Fire Department were involved in the recovery.
