Crews battled a three-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Brooklyn Park on Friday morning.

72 units of the Moonraker Apartments on the 5500 block of Brookdale Court were evacuated because of the blaze. About 100 firefighters from 12 different agencies were called to assist.

Witnesses say the fire started around 1:45 a.m. Friday on the third-floor balcony and then spread. Everyone has been evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

Seven adults and five people are being helped by the Red Cross. Six units were damaged, and those occupants will be put up in vacant units at Moonraker Apartments. Everybody else will be able to move back in by this evening.

The cause of the fire is considered accidental, although Deputy Fire Chief Todd Seitz says it appears to be started by smoking or a BBQ grill.
