Police are continuing to track a black bear in the northwest part of the city of Savage. Officers are working with the Department of Natural Resources.
Police say the bear was shot by an officer Friday, when it was spotted behind a home on the 9200 block of Creek Way.
The bear took off into a wooded area before it could be captured.
Police say anyone who sees the bear should keep their distance and call 911 immediately to report the animal’s location and direction of travel.
Police think the bear is 1 1/2 to 2 years old, and weighs 150 to 200 lbs.
The bear was seen seen at the Town and Country Campground on Friday around 8:30 p.m., following a number of other sightings that were reported earlier in the day.
The bear was then spotted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, crossing Highway 13 between 128th Street and 132nd Street. Officers were unable to locate the bear when they arrived.
Police would like to remind people bears can become a nuisance when they find a source of food. They will usually return regularly.
