The attorney for a woman who crashed a car into a St. Louis Park pond in November has asked for more time to look over the charges against his client.
Marion Guerrido's attorney, Rick Petry, tells KSTP he asked to move her court appearance back to July 9. She was scheduled to make a plea Wednesday for two misdemeanors and one petty misdemeanor charge.
Guerrido is charged with violating her driver's permit instructions by operating a vehicle without a licensed driver in the front seat and driving an uninsured car. She's also charged for not using the proper restraints for a child under 8 years old.
These are the only charges the mother faces after crashing a car with five children into a St. Louis Park pond in November. Her son and her boyfriend's daughter died at the hospital following the crash. The three other children survived after being submerged for between 25 and 45 minutes.
In March, the Hennepin County Attorney's Office decided not to file criminal charges against Guerrido following the accident.
She and her attorney will meet with prosecutors once her attorney has more time to look over the charges. Petry told KSTP they will return to the courthouse on July 9 for a pre-trial hearing, adding he is not ruling out any possibilities, including a trial.
