A 78-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after her car crashed into the Cottage Grove Animal Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Three windows were broken and part of a wall was damaged when the woman's car ran into the front of the facility at 8136 East Point Douglas Road in Cottage Grove around noon.

The woman, who suffered minor injuries, might have accidently pressed the gas instead of the brake when she pulled up to the animal hospital, Cottage Grove police said. She was taken to Regina Medical Center in Hastings.

Kathy Schute, a receptionist for the animal hospital, was at the front desk when the accident happened.

Schute said she was on the phone when she heard a loud boom when the car hit the building. Schute said all the employees and animals were fine, just a little shook up.

"It's taken awhile for us to calm down and quit shaking, but we're doing great," Schute said after the accident.

The amount of damage to the building is unknown at this time.
