Authorities are looking for a 21-year-old Coon Rapids man who went missing in the St. Croix River on Sunday in Taylors Falls after he went into the water to rescue his nephew.
According to Chisago County Sheriff Rick Duncan, an 11-year-old boy slipped into the river around 5 p.m. while he was fishing with his uncle.
The uncle and a good Samaritan both jumped into the water immediately to rescue the boy.
The good Samaritan, who jumped off a 30-foot cliff, rescued the boy and they both made it back to shore, authorities said.
The uncle, who authorities identified as Tou Hu Vang, did not resurface.
Duncan says water levels are high and running fast, making conditions for the search dangerous. "With our boats it's hard to keep them in a certain location," Duncan said.
Crews spent Sunday night dragging the river looking for Vang. They stopped their search efforts just before 9:30 p.m.
Crews resumed searching Monday morning, but the mission was changed from a rescue to a recovery, authorities said.
