No one was hurt when a small plane crashed on Madeline Island Saturday, according to the La Pointe Police Department.

A 1974 Piper Cherokee attempted to land at Major Gilbert Field Airport just after noon, the police department tells KSTP sister station WDIO.

Police said the plane was approaching from the north and ended up just east of the runway, coming to rest in a wooded area.

The three people on board were not hurt, according to police.

The Federal Aviation Administration was set to investigate the scene Sunday.
