The Gopher women's softball team will advance to the NCAA Super Regional after defeating Auburn 8-6 on Sunday. It is the first time in the program's history that the team will play in the Super Regional tournament.
Auburn beat the Gophers Sunday afternoon, forcing an additional game to determine the winner of the double-elimination tournament. The Gophers were able to rally in the second game, handing the Tigers their second loss of the tournament and ending their season.
Freshman Sam Macken secured the win for the Gophers with a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Gophers will play top-seeded Oregon in the NCAA Super Regional Saturday, May 24, in Eugene, Oregon.
