The Independence Party of Minnesota picked its candidates Saturday for statewide races, and it's full of new and unknown names.

None of the candidates have the name recognition of past choices like Tim Penny, Dean Barkley or Jesse Ventura.

This year, the party endorsed Kevin Terrell, a business consultant from Minneapolis, to challenge Minnesota Sen. Al Franken.

Hannah Nicollet, a software developer from Roseville, will challenge Gov. Mark Dayton.

The party endorsed Brandan Borgos for Attorney General, Pat Dean for State Auditor and Bob Helland for Secretary of State.

“Our Delegates have continued their long history of endorsing candidates who are eminently qualified to serve the people of Minnesota,” stated Independence Party Chair, Mark Jenkins, “I am thrilled with the experience and vision our candidates will deliver to voters of Minnesota over the next six months, and beyond.”

Delegates also passed platform resolutions opposing the Supreme Court’s ruling on “Citizen’s United”, supporting the sale of liquor and automobiles on Sundays, supporting Ranked Choice Voting “local options” legislation, supporting adequate funding for Minnesota’s rural infrastructure and supporting renewable energy made in Minnesota.

A resolution was also passed that called for the suspension of the current recreational wolf hunting and trapping season and calling for a return to the original wolf management goals and methods. These include the mandated five-year waiting period between de-listing an endangered species and allowing hunting and trapping.
