So far, the new Metro Green Line has had more accidents than passengers.

Test trains have been running along the new light rail line for a few weeks now, and they've been involved in three accidents. According to Metro Transit, the trains over on the Blue Line have only been involved in 82 accidents over 10 years.

So what's the problem? According to Patricia Dixon, who lives near the Green Line in St. Paul, it's an easy question to answer. "They have been running this train for a month now, testing it, giving people that time," she said, "but they're just not looking."

Metro Transit officials put it a little differently. Public Relations Manager John Siqveland said, "for motorists, for pedestrians, it's situational awareness."

He pointed out that the Green Line may be new, but the signs you'll find along the route really aren't.

"The signs and signals along the Green Line for the most part are the same that motorists and pedestrians are going to see elsewhere throughout the state," Siqveland explained. "We take our responsibility very seriously, that's the bedrock of our business, and we ask that motorists and pedestrians also are aware of their surroundings."

Siqveland also reiterated that Metro Transit has a webpage dedicated to Green Line safety. It features a lot of helpful information including pictures and explanations of signs and signals you could see along the Green Line.
