Law enforcement officers from across Minnesota stood guard for 24 hours in remembrance of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Day is Thursday. Officers from the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association (LEMA) had been standing guard at the Peace Officers' Memorial in St. Paul since 7 p.m. Wednesday to honor the 269 police officers who have been killed in action since 1874.

A candlelight vigil was held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to end the memorial. Honor guard units from across the state marched in a parade across the Wabasha Street Bridge to the Peace Officers' Memorial.

A complete list of Minnesota fallen officers recognized by the LEMA can be found here.

Across town in Minneapolis, the Hennepin County Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony will be held Thursday at noon at the Hennepin County Government Center.

The names of fallen officers will be read followed by the ringing of a bell.
