An ATF agent was questioned after a report of a gun shut down parts of a Twin Cities highway Tuesday morning.

The Minnesota State Patrol said they received a tip of a motorist displaying a handgun around 6:45 a.m. on Interstate 694, near County Road 81 in Brooklyn Park.

The state patrol said the caller followed the suspect vehicle until troopers found it on Interstate 94 near Highway 55. Troopers pulled the car over, blocking some lanes on I-94.

The driver was taken into custody, the state patrol said. It was determined the driver was an ATF agent, who showed the proper credentials, and was released.

The incident is under investigation.
