50K Attend Race for the Cure at MOA, Help Raise $2.5M

About 50,000 walkers and runners gathered at Mall of America on Mother’s Day to honor those affected by breast cancer. It was for the 22nd annual Susan G. Komen Twin Cities Race for the Cure.

The group was able to raise about $2.5 million for breast cancer research, education, screening and preliminary treatment programs. Seventy-five percent of the money stays right here in Minnesota.

Top finishers for the 5K run are:

  • Marcus Aberg, 26, of Sweden finishing at 16:02 – top male
  • Melissa Gacek, 38, of White Bear Lake, Minn. finishing at 17:54 – top female
  • Sarah Wagner, 48, of Eagan, Minn. finishing at 24:42 – top survivor

Sunday’s event is one of more than 150 events just like it around the world.

KSTP's radio partners at KS95 were proud to have the biggest team at the race. Moon, Staci and Crisco assembled more than 800 listeners.

Moon, Staci and Crisco were joined by 800 listeners, making KS95 Team Moon and Staci the largest team at Twin Cities Race for the Cure.
