Business is booming at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, specifically in the parking lots.
According to newly-released budget reports, March was an all-time record month for parking revenue. The airport raked in more than $9 million. On top of that, for all of 2013, parking was the number one source of operating revenue at the airport by $20 million over landing fees, which came in second.
"We need that money for expansion of our parking facilities and certainly expansion and improvement of other areas as well," said Assistant Director of MSP Operations Arlie Johnson.
The budget reports attribute the spike to more people parking and leaving their cars for longer periods of time.
"When they're flying they like to park at the airport," Johnson said. "It's really more convenient for them."
Of course, convenience will cost you.
MSP lots will run you anywhere from $3 per hour to $40 for a whole day if you valet. The airport says one good cost-efficient option is to park at Terminal 2, where it'll run you about $6 less per day than Terminal 1. Keep in mind; you can take the light rail between the two terminals for free.
There are also satellite lots that aren't affiliated with the airport. They'll mostly run you between $12 and $15 for a whole day.
Finally, you can also get real-time parking availability information on MSP's SurePark website.
