The 23-year-old mother who crashed her car into a pond in St. Louis Park last November, with five children inside, faces three misdemeanor charges, which could result in jail time.

Prosecutors announced in March they had no intention of filing felony charges against Marion Guerrido, of Brooklyn Center.

Guerrido was driving on the Highway 100 ramp at Highway 7 on Thursday, Nov. 21, when she lost control, overcorrected and plunged into a retention pond. Five kids were in the car at the time, and two of them were killed: 7-year-old Alarious Guerrido and 5-year-old Zenavia Rennie.

Guerrido was charged by summons Tuesday with failing to fasten a child passenger restraint system, driving without insurance, and violating the requirements of her instruction permit.

She could face up to 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both for having no insurance and violating the requirements of her instruction permit.

Guerrido only had an instructional permit to drive; it's Minnesota law to have a licensed driver in the front passenger seat when she drives.
